Canadian superstar Kathleen Edwards is releasing a new album in 2020. Prior to this, she had been inactive in the music industry for almost 8 years.
The music industry veteran has been active since 1999 and is an award-winning artist. She has also done well at the billboard charts and made her self a well-known name in all of North America.
The 42-year-old has released 4 albums and each has gotten her international acclaim. Among her talents, she is especially recognized for4 her songwriting and composing chops. As a matter of fact, she received the SOCAN Songwriting Prize, the accolade winner is selected by the public which is an ode to her popularity among fans.
Inspired by the likes of Tom Petty and other many music icons, she slowly climbed the musical success ladder until she became a folk icon herself.
Kathleen Edwards’ New Album: Total Freedom
Edwards is set to release her 5th studio effort, ‘Total Freedom’ on August 14, 2020. Her classic musical style has been compared to the likes of Neil Young and other similar artists.
Her new album also showcases her traditional songwriting skills. The artist has even said that this record reflects her transformation and the maturity that her age has brought.
During her 8 year hiatus that she took before announcing the release of Total Freedom, she opened up a coffee Quitters Coffee in her hometown of Ottawa.
She has gathered all the experiences that she has gotten from being so deep-rooted in her own community. In an interview, she said that the conversations of customers have played a huge part in her new album.
Indeed, she described her feelings when she was recognized by some of the people who came in her coffee shop as an eyeopening experience for her mature self as her younger self would’ve probably corrected them for calling her just a country singer.

Kathleen Edwards: Asking For Flowers & First Album
One of the singer’s biggest hits before releasing Total Freedom was Asking For Flowers, she made the song as a folk Ballad and won hearts everywhere.
This song and its lyrics have been considered a melancholy masterpiece as she describes the tragedies of her life.
She released her first studio album back in 2003 titled Failer, while it failed to chart and flew under the radar of most music fans t did have some rave reviews from critics.
As a matter of fact, Edwards was called one of the year’s most promising new acts. Another outlet was also quick to note that her songs pulled people in no matter how dark her lyrics were at times.
Due to the popularity of her first album and tours, she was invited to perform on David Letterman’s show. She performed one of her hits, “Six O’Clock News.”.

While there were a lot of tours planned for the 2020/21 dates, the pandemic suspended them indefinitely. Fans were excited about her new album and the subsequent tour of the record however, they will have to wait to listen to her sing live.
